Case study: Recruitment success as a result of our diverse Swansea PR campaign

Blog Detail

We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver a multi-faceted PR campaign that utilises a variety of promotional tactics. Here is a fantastic case study on how we helped a client with a major recruitment drive.

The challenge:

Specialist motor insurer ERS, which offers a diverse range of insurance for all kinds of vehicles, had already built a significant call centre and well-resourced office in Swansea, complementing its London-based operations. But, competing with better-known brands in the area, the company was struggling to recruit the numbers of staff it needed to pace with its rapid growth.

The brief:

Dealing directly with the company’s senior HR team in Swansea, we developed a two-pronged strategy. One element was designed to increase the company’s profile in the region, helping it become more front-of-mind to potential employees.

The second strand was to deliver a recruitment open day for the company, whereby potential candidates interested in working for the company could come and meet managers and learn more about the company and its values.

How we helped:

We devised a multi-faceted Swansea PR campaign, incorporating a mix of public relations and marketing to both raise awareness of what the company does and the career opportunities it offers, as well as specific details of the open day at its office.

The campaign included a mixture of press releases and advertorials placed in a number of regional print titles, a similar mixture of content in the equivalent digital publications, a radio campaign and a booth at an outdoor motor festival connected to the radio campaign.

The outcome:

Ultimately, more than 150 individuals attended its open day – which it used to showcase its building, operations, take questions and discuss career opportunities – and more than 15 were hired in the immediate aftermath of the event. The new hires joined in a variety of roles spanning finance, IT, HR, facilities, claims, and in its underwriting teams.

The wider brand-awareness aspect of the PR campaign helped the company continue to build on this initial success. Within six months of that event, the company went on to create some 200 jobs in the city. That took its total workforce based in Swansea to almost 400.

ERS Director of Operations, Donna Willis said at the time:

“The open day was a fantastic success and we met some really impressive people who have since joined the team here at ERS. It has been a really busy year for us with the move to the new office and hiring nearly 200 new staff members, we are delighted to have attracted so many talented individuals to join our team.”
